Medium, slightly hazy red. Medicinal kirsch and menthol aromas could use a bit more lift. In a distinctly dry, cooler style but at the same time rather muscular and lacking in perfume. Finishes with a late note of red cherry. Not a great showing today.

The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Clos de la Commaraine has an outgoing and almost Volnay-like bouquet with copious red cherry and strawberry tart aromas neatly integrated with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet ripe red cherry and raspberry fruit, fine tannin and a pleasant spice-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. This is simply a lovely Pommard to enjoy over the next decade.

Tank sample. Bright crimson. Some mushrooms on the nose – good mushrooms – and better hidden tannins than in most Pommards. Lots of charm. And structure. (JR)
