Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2019-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2017

The 2015 Marsannay Clos du Roy presents a much more ample expression of Marsannay. Dark cherry, plum and spice notes fill out the wine's frame effortlessly. This is an especially deep, powerful wine. The substantial tannins are likely to need a few years to soften.

Dense, dark fruit on the nose and palate. Fine tannin that gives a tight grip on the finish, yet is digestible now. Much more austere in fruit style than their other Marsannays. (RH)

The 2015 Marsannay Clos du Roy was quite closed when I tasted it, a mixture of red and black fruit, iodine and crushed violets. The palate is very bright and beautifully defined, the oak neatly enmeshed with superb acidity. This becomes more and more precise as it goes on. It is equipped with a tensile finish that offers plenty of black, quite spicy fruit. By this time, the aromatics gain their composure and ever more clarity. Give this 2-3 years in bottle and you will have an exemplary Marsannay.
