The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Champs Canet 1er Cru is clearly on a higher level compared to the Village Cru, with a subtle shellfish note and a hint of lemon verbena. The palate is well balanced with a saline note on the entry, just a subtle touch of ginger imparting a spicy undercurrent with a persistent finish. This is drinking beautifully now.

The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru displays more tropes of the warm growing season than the Champ Canet from Sauzet: brushes of dried mango, honeysuckle and a touch of beeswax. The palate is balanced, with a pleasant saltiness on the entry allied with a pleasing nuttiness that becomes more prominent toward the finish. This has cohesion and length, and quite a sophisticated finish that belies the tropically tinged nose. I would give this two or three years in bottle because I suspect it will turn into an excellent Champ Canet. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Jacques Carillon's 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet has lost none of its typical elegance in the 2015 vintage, wafting from the glass with a pure and classic bouquet of lemon oil and preserved lemon, white flowers, chalky soil tones and a subtle framing of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, cool and tensile, with nice depth and concentration and a chalky, bright finish.
