The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie 1er Cru is perhaps showing a little too much vanilla-y oak at the moment; that said, there is sufficient fruit to absorb that over the next couple of years. The clean, precise palate is smooth and slightly honeyed in texture, revealing hints of candied orange peel and a suggestion of crème brûlée toward the finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie is a lovely wine, wafting from the glass with notes of pear, lemon oil, iodine and wheat toast. On the palate, the wine is elegantly glossy, full-bodied and deep, with racy acids, excellent concentration and a cool, stony finish. This is a bright, precise La Maltroie that confounds stereotypes of the 2015 vintage.
Aromas of peach, apricot and ripe pear complicated by a musky leesy element and some soft citrus hints. Rich, suave, dry wine with excellent depth of flavor and insidious acid spine. Offers an alluring mix of fruit, minerals and smoky lees. Quite broad in the style of the year, finishing subtle and long, with a hint of menthol and a lightly phenolic character.
