The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru has a very attractive bouquet of subtle orange blossom, candle wax and crushed stone aromas, all displaying impressive detail and clarity. The precise palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, plenty of tension and a lick of salinity on the finish that leaves you with a grin on your face and anticipating the follow-up sip. Superb. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Tasted blind, the 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée from Domaine Paul Pillot performed very well, wafting from the glass with a classy bouquet of green orchard fruit, wheat toast and iodine. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, glossy and layered, with considerable concentration at the core and chewy structuring extract. Understated and pure in profile, it's a terrific rendition of one of Chassagne-Montrachet's finest premiers crus.
