Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Argillats from Jean Tardy appeared to show better from barrel than in bottle. Here it has a very attractive bouquet with ample red cherry, raspberry preserve and rose petal scents, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and ripe but missing some structure underneath, while the finish shows some over-ripeness. Perhaps a day or two picked too late? Hopefully it will regain the form it showed in barrel with maturity. Tasted September 2017.

Mid purplish crimson. Edgy and youthful – a bit chunky and lacking charm. But with lots tucked in here. (JR)
