The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Helichrysum is a more complete wine compared to the Brunello Annata also released in the same vintage. The bouquet here is smoother and shows better overall integration. You get dark berry fruit with spice, cola and leather. Despite the overall intensity, this wine is not particularly profound or complex. There is a touch of vintage ripeness that adds extra softness and richness in terms of texture. The effects are nice, albeit lacking in depth. There is a point of sour astringency that will probably flesh out with more bottle aging.

Tasted blind. Almost impenetrable dark ruby with orange tinges. Brooding richness on the nose and hints of oatmeal. Great extract and bags of firm, slightly drying tannins cut through by bright acidity. Very unwilling at the moment and in need of bottle age. (WS)
