The 2016 Pontoise Cabarrus has a tightly wound bouquet with light graphite notes poking through the carapace of black tarry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, just a little aggression to be tamed by bottle age, though there is good substance towards the grippy finish. Maybe just slightly over-extracted in the winery, but I think it will pull through in the end. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Plump black bramble fruit, dried meat and spice on the palate, smooth texture and bright acid. Finishes quite briefly, but the palate shows enjoyable if fairly limited complexity. (RH)
