The 2016 Petrus is quite backward and demands time to open in the glass, developing subtle iris flower and black truffle scents, with a hint of Montecristo intertwining with the red fruit. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly grainy texture. You could almost imagine there being some Cabernet Franc in the blend! Great depth and harmony towards the finish, this has a peacock's tail finish that goes on and on. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10 Year On tasting in London.

Tasted blind. Heady and Pomerol-esque on the nose which really draws you in with a promise of intrigue. Hint of cordite. Love or loathe but certainly dramatic. Slightly drying and hot on the end at the moment. (JR)
Shaded garnet. Intensely rich but not sweet on the nose. Complex with a little more savour than the Lafleur. Sort of trying to be a mid-Gironde style. Massive freshness and still a bit of tannin but very complex. Worth a bit of concentration, and real energy here. (JR)
Getting to enjoy Petrus as it comes into full maturity is a glorious thing, and this combines fleshy promise of ripe damson fruits with subtle floral aromatics of crushed red roses. Fleshy yet with bite, fragrant and still peering over the line of maturity, the truffles that will surely come in a few years are not yet apparent, instead we are still on autumnal berries and toasted spice, underpinned by cocoa bean and liquorice. So good. 50% new oak, Olivier Berrouet winemaker.
