The 2016 Sigalas Rabaud seems to have closed down a little since I last tasted it. The nose gently opens with wild honey, quince and saffron. A touch of lemon curd emerges with aeration. The palate is very well-balanced, with marvelous purity and tension. The stem ginger element is now more integrated and harmonious with a long and tender finish. Not quite in the league of the 2014, but only a couple of paces behind. Tasted from a bottle sent directly from Sigalas Rabaud to the UK.

The 2016 Sigalas-Rabaud has an attractive bouquet of dried honey, lemon curd and light quince aromas; a touch of lanolin emerges with time. The palate has a pleasing, viscous entry tinged with tangy marmalade. It feels harmonious and focused, and reveals a touch of ginger on the persistent finish. This is a very fine Sauternes that is worth seeking out. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Pale gold. Notably buttery nose. Rather attractive. Very sweet and well-balanced freshness. Pure pleasure. Good freshness on the end. (JR)
