Exhibiting aromas of crème de cassis, licorice, tobacco leaf, baking chocolate and plums, the 2016 Paloumey is medium-bodied, bright and lively, with refined tannins and a charming, elegant profile, even though it dates from a period where winemaking at this address was a touch more extractive.

Milk chocolate and red fruit on the nose of this mid-weight, supple Haut-Médoc that has just enough tannins to balance the nice, ripe flavors. Lively and easy finish. A blend of 55 per cent cabernet sauvignon, 42 per cent merlot and 3 per cent cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Paloumey has a pleasant blackberry and mulberry scented bouquet with wilted iris and pot pourri aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin, nicely balanced although, I would have appreciated more detail and terroir expression on the conservative finish. I feel this could have been better. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.
