The 2016 Château La Tour du Pin Figeac is brilliant and shows how consistent and impressive this vintage is. Sporting a saturated ruby/plum color as well as complex notes of red currants, iron, incense, and hints of chocolate, this stacked, medium to full-bodied Saint-Emilion hits the palate with loads of fruit, a sexy, seamless texture, and a great finish. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc aged in 25% new French oak, it’s a pleasure-bent mouthful of wine I’d happily drink over the coming 15 years.

The 2016 La Tour du Pin Figeac has a rather rudimentary bouquet of simple red berry fruit, along with hoisin and cedar in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and quite grippy in the mouth, displaying chewy tannin and a "furry" texture toward the pencil-lead-tinged finish. Not bad, but it is missing a little sophistication.
This has a very appealing balance of ripe red fruit and moderately dry tannins, the lively acidity lifting the mineral finish neatly. A blend of 75 per cent merlot and 25 per cent cabernet franc. Drink or hold.
