Score 92/100 · Drink 2016-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2015

Using 35% whole cluster grapes that are crushed under foot and fermented in a Nomblot egg - the remainder de-stemmed - and raised for 16 months in 2,500-liter foudres, the 2013 Syrah has a lively bouquet with cranberry, blueberry and violet aromas, with a touch of clove and white fennel developing behind. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and well judged acidity; it has a light savory touch (black pudding!) with a nicely structured finish. Enjoy this classy, personality-driven Syrah over the next decade.

20-35% whole bunch. The bunches go into the bottom of Nomblot concrete. Press off right after fermentation. 16 months in used casks. Very dark crimson. Pale rim. Red fruit flavours, very winning and wholesome. Round and velvety. Super charming. Firm structure but massive fruit too. Long. (JR)
