Scents of cherry, apple and white peach wreathed in their flowers anticipate the luscious sense of primary juiciness and the alluring inner-mouth perfume that ensue on a silken palate. Nuttiness and peach kernel piquancy serve for counterpoint. There is plenty of savory and mineral depth here, too, with hints of peat and leather lending low-toned interest a salinity salivary stimulation to a long, caressing yet stimulating and refreshing finish.

RS 5.9 g/l, TA 5.9 g/l. Elegant and nicely dusty/mineral on the nose and just a hint of spice through the delicate citrus. Broader in the mouth than the Mosel wines just tasted. Again that spice but not terribly deep or long. (JH)
The 2016 Rheingau Riesling Hochheim Kirchenstück "GG" / "Grosse Lage" has a clear, deep and very aromatic bouquet of ripe fruits intermixed with yeasty, chalky and earthy flavors. Full-bodied, lush and elegant on the palate, this has fine and vital acidity, delicate tannins, ripe fruit and a persistently mineral, tensioned finish. Tasted three times between August and November 2017.
Stand back and hold on to your hat! This wine already has a great Yamanashi white peach and shiso leaf nose, but that doesn't prepare you for the electric interplay of fruit and mineral acidity on the palate. All this excitement is packed into sleek silhouette, and just when you think you've got a handle on it the finish comes back to haunt you. Best through 2050.
