Score 97/100 · Drink 2024-2054, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2024

I have long admired the 2014 vintage in Margaret River. Warm and sunny, the region produced magnificent Cabernets in this season, although it must be said that the inherent style of Cabernets from this region has further refined since then. Here, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is complex, subtle, supple and plush. The fruit is teetering on the brink of development, without fully dipping in to it yet, suggesting that perhaps it would be prudent to wait for these bottles to further come of age prior to opening them (as it stands in 2025). I have loved this wine before, and I feel the same way again here today.

A stylish edition of regal Margaret River cabernet that has plenty of ripe dark cherries and blackcurrants as well as cedar oak, violets, hints of chocolate, terracotta, bay leaf and some gentle gravelly notes. The ripe tannins deliver a smooth and seamless palate that climbs in layers of complex flavors. Effortless power, great concentration and perfect ripeness. A class act. Drink now or hold.

92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot. 30 months in French oak, 17% new. Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Sweet and very slightly cooked on the nose. Then a bit tart on the palate. Balance doesn’t seem ideal at the moment. Herbal note. Australian, but maybe not Margaret River. (JR)
