Tasting notes
Score 93-96/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2016

Medium-deep red. Wonderfully rich, deep aromas of raspberry, smoky minerality, cappuccino and cocoa powder (Saouma describes this as "an old expression of Richebourg"). Extremely primary and unformed but already very dense and thick, offering highly concentrated flavors of dark berries, mocha and mineral salts. Incredibly backward verging on disorienting, this singular wine finishes with noble tannins and a lingering note of cocoa powder. The Lucien Le Moine '15s from Vosne-Romanée are really incredibly backward today and my projected scoring ranges for this wine and the Grands-Echezeaux may turn out to look stingy. (Incidentally, Saouma will not offer a Gaudichots this year.)
