(just one barrel made): Less fruity and more minerally on the nose than the Caillerets, dominated by aromas of menthol and powdered stone. A serious, very concentrated rocky expression yet surprisingly pliant in the middle palate and a bit sweetened by its oak component. I would not describe this very backward wine as fun today owing to its almost medicinal minerality but there's excellent texture here, as well as lovely length. Frédéric Barnier told me that Jadot has recently purchased some small stainless steel tanks to "refresh" their tiny cuvées during their last couple months of élevage.

The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée was more closed compared to the en Cailleret at this stage, without the same degree of delineation and terroir expression. The palate is balanced with a fat and slightly honeyed opening, touches of almond and nutmeg infusing the light tropical tones, but it lacks tension and energy on the finish. The 2015 showed better last year.
