Bright, dark medium red. Reticent nose shows a cedary quality and a high note of violet. Much less sweet and approachable than the Hauts Poirets, dominated today by savory soil tones (these vines are planted on a steep slope featuring more soil than rock, according to new winemaker Alexandre Vernet). Very tight and uncompromising, even tough and dry in the early going, and clearly in need of extended aging. My score gives this very imploded wine the benefit of some doubt, owing to its long aftertaste.

(malo not finished): Saturated dark red-ruby. Quite reduced on the nose. Densely packed and tactile, with juicy blackberry and violet flavors complicated by a saline element. This very primary wine finishes with chewy tannins and excellent length. Jayer told me he may bottle this very pure, penetrating wine as late as July owing to the very tardy malolactic fermentation. Incidentally, the temperature of the alcoholic fermentation did not exceed 26 degrees C.
