The 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de L’Arlot 1er Cru, containing 49% whole bunches, was a low yield according to winemaker Géraldine Godot. It has a little more intensity on the nose compared to the 2015, the fruit slightly darker. The whole bunches lend more undergrowth character. The palate is medium-bodied with dark cherries, citrus peel, touches of black pepper and spice. It is less muscular than a couple of years ago, though it just needs a little more matière on the finish. Drink now and over the next decade. Tasted at the Domaine de L’Arlot tasting at La Cabotte in London.

Mid ruby. A little ‘sharper’ on the nose – more focused or more youthful than the 2015? Hint of violets but then some pretty assertive tannins. A very grainy finish. (JR)

The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de l’Arlot 1er Cru is (yet another) wine from the appellation sporting quite a lot of reduction on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite firm tannins, rather foursquare with a grippy and heavy-handed finish that needs more grace and finesse. Plenty of substance here for its class and maybe it will improve with bottle age. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
