This dense ruby/purple 2005 is tannic and hard, with a somewhat angular, austere personality. It offers ripe fruit, but the tannins still dominate, which is very surprising for a wine from the southern Médoc at age 10. Judgment reserved.

Very deep crimson. Sleek, sophisticated nose with even a hint of black cherries. One of the suppler 2005 Haut-Médocs. Pretty chewy on the finish but utterly charming up to that point. Very well done. What’s not to like?! Find this wine From 11.90 euros (JR)

Medium ruby. Musky black fruits and truffle dominate the nose. Fat and glossy, with an enveloping texture to its dark fruit flavors. The broad finish features substantial but essentially soft, tooth-dusting tannins. Not at all overly sweet.
