Score 94/100 · Drink 2024-2036, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Oct 2024

The 2016 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is maturing gracefully. It has pure, layered scents of strawberry and raspberry jam, oolong tea leaves, blood orange, mossy bark and mushrooms. Chalky and mouthwatering, it floods the mouth with nuanced flavors, and alluring tertiary touches are just beginning to peek through. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.

Shaded ruby. This has evolved into quite a vegy Pinot. Light-bodied with still-obvious polished tannins but just a little lacking in oomph at this stage in its life. (JR)

Strawberries, crushed stones, cedar and hints of meat. Dried flowers, too. Medium-bodied with chalk and spice. Dried citrus. Delicious and wonderful to drink now.

Complex, savoury nose with a very dry finish but no shortage of palate interest beforehand. Pale and interesting like a 19 th -century heroine? (Not at all like the wine's namesake, Robert Mondavi.) Real texture. (JR)
