Score 89/100 · Drink 2021-2035, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2017

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes has a clean and precise bouquet, red berry fruit mixed with cured meat/dried blood aromas, nicely defined and neatly enmeshed with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin on the entry, quite spicy and bright, although the new oak impinges a little towards the finish. It will require 4-6 years in bottle.

Healthy ruby-red. Sexy, rather open-knit aromas of raspberry, licorice and roast coffee. Nicely concentrated and moderately sweet, with its berry flavors complicated by pungent sweet spices and saline minerality. Best today on the vibrant, slowly mounting, palate-saturating finish, where the suave tannins coat the sides of the tongue.

Dark ruby-red. Blackberry and menthol dominate the nose, which reveals none of the gaminess of the Gevrey cuvées . On the lean side but shows good definition and cut to the flavors of spices, flowers and saline minerality. Compared to the Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys served before it, the tannins are a bit dryer and less well supported.
