Tasted blind.  Deep ruby colour. Bright red fruit on the nose, a touch leafy. Very lively and acid-led – perhaps a touch lean but some will like this compact nature. The fruit just lacks a little definition. Medium-length finish. (TP)

The 2017 Haut-Bages Libéral is dense, powerful and quite rich. Red cherry, blood orange, pomegranate and spice all build in the glass. The 2017 boasts quite a bit of density and concentration but perhaps a bit less nuance. It remains to be seen whether the 2017 will accrue more finesse as the new oak (45%) integrates over time.

72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot. Very fragrant. Really very attractive aromatically and then just a bit more pinched than the top Pauillacs on the palate. Drying, slightly stringy, sandpapery finish. (JR)
