The 2017 Haura shows good depth, but there is no way to get past some of the more angular contours that persist in the glass. Dark cherry, smoke, scorched earth and gamy notes add to the wine's burly feel.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Haura has a nose of baked blackberries, mulberries, stewed plums and cherries with a waft of fragrant earth and herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and chewy with an herbal streak.

The 2017 Haura has a surprisingly intense bouquet with blackberry, warm gravel and scents of morels on the nose. This is much more outgoing than I expected. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins that frame the simple, but pure dark berry fruit laced with brown spices on the finish. It has an easygoing personality and should drink well for 4 or 5 years.

The 2017 Haura has a much fatter and fruit-driven bouquet than the Dubourdieu family’s other Graves, Clos Floridène. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannin, soft and rounded in the mouth with just a slight reductive tin-like tincture towards the finish. Not bad, although this year I prefer the Clos Floridène that has a touch more precision.
