The 2017 Destieux is a rich, heady Saint-Émilion. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, sweet spice, vanillin, menthol, licorice and grilled herbs give this boisterous, exotically ripe Saint-Émilion much of its voluptuous, overt feel. Destieux is not especially subtle, and the oak is strong, but it is unquestionably delicious and inviting. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade or so. Tasted two times.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored., the 2017 Destieux sings of baked plums, stewed cherries and dried mulberries with wafts of forest floor, Indian spices, hoisin and black olives. The medium to full-bodied palate is rich and spicy with pleasant freshness and nice, plush tannins, finishing long and decadent.

The 2017 Destieux has a fragrant bouquet with raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and lavender aromas. The Destieux reveals better delineation than it showed out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, caressing towards the silky and harmonious finish. One of the best Destieux that I have encountered in recent years.

The 2017 Chateau Destieux is a beauty and is showing even better from bottle than barrel. Revealing a saturated purple/ruby color as well as rocking notes of blueberries, black cherries, crushed rocks, tobacco, and violets, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, plenty of mid-palate depth, building tannins, and a great finish. This elegant, stunning 2017 will benefit from short-term cellaring and cruise for 15 years or more.
