Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2022, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Dec 2018

The unoaked 2016 Mataborricos, aged in terracotta amphorae is a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena. This bottling began in 2014 and the 2016 also contains Listán Prieto (aka Pais, Mission, Criolla Chica...) a grape from Castilla, a simple artisanal wine produced as it was done in the zone before oak was used and all wines were in clay tinaja. It has a sharp palate with electric acidity, with precision and finesse, fine-grained tannins and is like a highly drinkable Beaujolais. There is an organic, earthy feeling to it, with a 'natural' twist. There were 1,300 bottles produced.
