The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots, taken from cask and due for racking in February, offers ripe red cherries, bilberry and hints of marmalade on the forward and expressive nose. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, quite firm in the mouth, masculine with a slightly stolid finish that needs to find more grace and opulence. Hopefully racking will address those issues.

100% whole bunch. Racked to tank in November and now on fine lees in tank. 25% new oak. Incredibly deeply coloured for a Pinot. Power here and finesse. Such fine tannins again and freshness with the dark elegance of perferctly ripe fruit. Long, dry, serious finish, power and freshness are the keys here but power without excess weight. (JH)
