The 2016 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru was reduced to a paltry 130 liters this vintage and so a special barrel was used to accommodate the wine to the exact liter. It has a straightforward, Granny Smith apple and oyster shell-scented bouquet that is nicely defined if lacking some intensity. The palate is well balanced with a keen thread of acidity, tensile if not deep, precise if not long. This is all about the detail and terroir expression, one of the more subtle wines from the domaine that I am sure will age with style. Good luck finding a bottle.
