The 2016 Marsannay Rouge has a glorious and vivacious bouquet with red cherries, blueberry and subtle violet aromas that are beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is a fine bead of acidity here, fresh and focused with perfect salinity, a judicious pinch of cracked black pepper enhancing the finish. This comes thoroughly recommended, especially given Pataille’s reasonable price. Tasted at the Domaine Direct Tasting in London.

Cool and fresh nose but not that expressive at this point. Though there is lots buried in there. Still quite chiselled in terms of acidity. Wait. Lean and a tad mean at the moment. (JR)

Very pale ruby. Light but beautiful. Scented. Rather beautiful. Great balance. Edgy and confident and very Côte de Nuits. Chunky. Mid weight. Hugely full of ingredients. Bone dry. Admirable. Clean as a whistle. Edge of orange peel. Just the job for a burgundy at this price. Could be drunk with food but absolutely no hurry. GV (JR)
