2016 Nuits St Georges Les Chouillets Vieilles Vignes

(from vines on the north side of the village, under Aux Bousselots and closer to booming downtown Nuits-Saint-George than to Vosne-Romanée; there were some frost losses here owing to cold air flowing through the combe ): Bright medium ruby. Black- and redcurrant, menthol, chocolate and black pepper on the rather cool nose. Concentrated, densely packed village wine with lovely violet lift and saline complexity to its dark berry and spice flavors. This is broader-shouldered and longer than the basic Nuits-Saint-Georges village wine, finishing with nicely buffered tannins and a sappy quality.
