Score 90/100 · Drink 2021-2029, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Feb 2021

A blend of 23% Roussanne, 22% Chenin Blanc, 21% Semillon, 17% Clairette Blanche and 17% Chardonnay, the 2017 Rocking Horse Cape White was wild fermented and offers aromas of corncob, yellow apple and pineapple husk. It is full-bodied and focused on the palate, with flavors of lemon curd, dusty apples and muskmelon and a waxy, textual mouthfeel that gives away to a nutty and leesy character. It ends with a long, winding finish and will continue to age gracefully for the next 7 to 8 years. 1,100 cases produced.

The 2017 Rocking Horse is a blend of five grape varieties that was matured in used oak. It has a knockout bouquet of well-defined citrus peel, orange blossom, nutmeg and light peppery scents. The palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity and quite saline in the mouth, and displays lovely viscosity toward a finish that feels full of tension. In a word: rocking.
