(20 hectoliters per hectare produced, with the bottom of the parcel doing better than the top): Dark red with ruby highlights. Sexy aromas of redcurrant, minerals and leather. Then youthfully clenched and tightly wound but not dry, with its medicinal cherry and licorice flavors joined on the end by a note of dark chocolate. The slightly tough tannins will require at least a few years of bottle aging upon release. In its wildness and structure, this wine reminded me of a Gevrey-Chambertin, as the Teurons example from Domaine Albert Morot has done for years.

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest and most established wine producers. Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, it is the largest vineyard owner in the Côte d’Or with 130 hectares of vines.
