FINE+RARE, Nov 2018

The quality coming from these up to 80 year old vines is fast developing a cult following and a stunning reputation, often outscoring Leflaive's and Ramonet's Montrachet. It's the highest ever scored Mouchere from barrel in Vinous.com history. For us at FINE+RARE, it is genuinely one of the most exciting releases of the year and our long running relationship with Henri Boillot has enabled us to secure a sizeable volume of the production. However Henri Boillot’s wines remain in high demand and this will be at the top of the list for any informed Burgundy collector.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère 1er Cru has a light bouquet of undergrowth and wet pavement, a little subdued at first but finding its voice with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and there is some beautifully integrated oak here. Harmonious and poised with wonderful weight and precision toward the finish, where veins of white peach furnish the seductive aftertaste. Absolutely delicious. (NM)

A touch of mineral reduction can be found on the markedly floral-inflected nose of white peach, spice and discreet wood nuances. There is first-rate volume to the caressing yet powerful flavors that possess excellent mid-palate density before concluding in an energetic and well-balanced finale. This isn't especially complex at present so I would suggest holding it for another 4 to 6 years first. Lovely. Tried twice since release with consistent notes.
