Like the Vieilles Vignes, the 2016 Cairanne la Brunote is looking even better from bottle than it did last year out of tank. It's 60% Grenache, with the remainder a co-fermentation of Carignan and Mourvèdre. Two demi-muids account for approximately 15% of the blend, while the rest of the blend aged in concrete tanks. From older vines and richer clay soils, this is brighter and fresher than the Vieilles Vignes, with perfumed, mixed-berry fruit and just a hint of cocoa. It's full-bodied, richly concentrated and silky in texture, with a long finish that leaves you searching for another sip.

A classic, old-school beauty that always delivers, the 2016 Cairanne La Brunote offers a medium to full-bodied, impeccably balanced style as well as terrific notes of ground pepper, new leather, crushed rocks, and ample darker fruits. It’s great example of the quality coming from this estate today as well as this great vintage.

Almost painfully youthful, with raw black fruit and dark chocolate aromas, and bitter herbal notes on the palate. Compact and intense, with more future potential than current drinkability. (RH)
