Subtle but definite oak on the nose. And a note of struck match. This has power, intensity and excellent balance. On the palate, intense and creamy lemon with a touch of spice that seems to affect the texture as much as the flavour. Great persistence. (JH)

Aromas of green orchard fruit, blanched almonds and wet stones introduce the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean, a medium to full-bodied wine with a satiny attack and an expressive core of fruit, with lovely purity, chalky structure and succulent acids. While this nods towards Vergers in style it is one of the more giving 2017 from Pillot and it will drink pretty well out of the gates.
