The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has an intense, beautifully defined bouquet that shows superb mineralité ; this conveys so much energy. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit mixed with veins of blue fruit. There’s fine weight here, but just slight over-extraction, meaning that the finish is missing a little tension and somewhat subdued. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras was less put together when I tasted it, offering up aromas of juicy cherries, wild berries and subtle grilled meats, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample but inscrutably tight-knit palate. The outlines are promising, but it needs more élevage, so my score is more than usually imprecise.
