Strong oak influence, but with just enough restraint to maintain balance. Superb fruit intensity on the palate, with a lovely medicinal note adding complexity. Savoury and gastronomic on the finish. This delivers a lot of satisfaction at the price. (RH) (JR)

(the estate has two adjacent parcels in this sheltered, very warm site; the vines here are 50 years old, vs. 30 for the Clos Saint-Jean): Bright yellow. Alluring aromas of white peach, wildflowers and honey, along with a touch of reduction. Tighter than the Clos Saint-Jean, showing strong lemony cut. Intensely flavored but hard to assess today owing to its high level of CO2 and penetrating citricity. Céline Fontaine admitted that maturity in these vines was a bit blocked by heat and drought in August, adding that the summer of 2017 "was the first time I saw withered leaves in Grande Montagne."
