White peach, strawberry, grapefruit and lime are coolingly laced with fennel and mint on a fetching nose and a luscious, silken, palpably lees-enriched palate. The generously juicy finish is surprisingly and delightfully buoyant for a wine labeled at 12.5% alcohol.

The 2017 Röttgen VDP Grosse Lage offers a beautifully pure, warm, crunchy and highly refined bouquet of crushed stones with floral and deeply mineral notes. This is a discreet, highly refined, even peppery and limey-flavored Röttgen, the purest I have ever tasted. Lush and silky on the palate, this is a very elegant, intense, concentrated, lingeringly salty and finely structured Röttgen with a long, piquant yet also beautifully aromatic and fleshy finish. Tasted in March 2019.

An attractive nose of yellow fruit and minty herbal aromas may not be a rare occurrence in fine Riesling, but the Röttgen adds a cool mineral distinction to the fragrance. Juicy fruit on the palate is embellished by green sappy herbs, a lip-smacking salty tang and crisp phenolics adding a real edge to the finish. (MS)
