(15% alcohol; Tokara's flagship red, 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec): Bright, dark red-ruby. Floral, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, violet, minerals and mint. Lovely depth and pliancy to its densely packed, very primary black fruit flavors, with harmonious framing acidity. Finishes firm and long, with suave, spreading tannins. Still a baby. Miles Mossop told me that he looks for "a high-toned, herbal expression of the site."

The 2011 Director’s Reserve Red is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec. It has a well-defined and focused bouquet with scents of raspberry, wild strawberry, cedar and mint – all vibrant and stylish. The palate is medium-bodied with dusty blackberry and raspberry notes, well-integrated oak with a slightly introspective, earthy finish with a long pepper aftertaste. I would afford this a year, perhaps two in bottle.
