(just half of a normal crop made): Bright yellow. Slightly stunted aromas of stone and citrus fruits. Quite ripe in its deep yellow fruit flavors but given a distinctly penetrating quality by a surprising spine of minerality and fresh acidity. This wine actually seems riper than it did from barrel a year ago, but with no loss of energy. Finishes with a faintly phenolic edge and a lingering note of dusty stone.

There are just two and a half barrels of the 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Boucheres because of the frost this year. The nose was showing quite a bit of reduction when I tasted it from tank. The palate is much better, with a honeyed opening, hints of nutmeg and walnut infusing the light tropical tones with a tang of ginger on the finish. The reduction gets in the way a little, so hopefully this will come together in bottle. We will see.

7 ouvrées (equivalent to 0.3 ha)! Bought with Roulot and made with his advice. 2.5 barrels made – half a crop. Smoky and a little matchsticky. Bags of charm and appeal. Polished fruit, racy stuff. Lots of grapefruit acidity. (JR)
