Struck flint, wet stone, ripe pear, kumquat and anise mark the nose. The palate is full and glycerol-rich, displaying more sheer juiciness than that of its Feils (aka “Fass 13”) stablemate. Tang and prickle of peach fuzz add invigoration to a finish of admirable clarity and ample refreshment. This is a bit less striking than the Feils – which isn’t surprising given the distinctiveness of that site – but is still considerably complex, as well as more fun to drink.

This smells of lemon curd, but that only gives a vague idea of the wonderfully subtle aromas of this wine. Rich and creamy on the palate, yet so fresh and lively with a vibrant, very uplifting finish. Drink or hold.

With so much exotic fruit on the nose you may be expecting an early developer, but the palate demonstrates a compact minerality with a tactile herbaceous crunchiness. Bitter-sweet fruit peel, a subtle salty tang and fresh green mint offer plenty of variety. Needs a little more time to come together for the greater good of complexity. (MS)
