The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes is typically quite dark in colour. The bouquet is intense and bursting with dark berry fruit mixed with cola and light loamy scents, although it is missing some finesse and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with quite thick tannin, firm grip and good volume, but I find this lacks details and terroir expression towards the sinewy finish. Tasted at the Domaine Direct Tasting in London.

Quite deep crimson. Not that much nose but some energy evident. Rather dry finish. Bitter-cherry fruit but not the subtlest. Does what it says on the tin but no more. Though it’s pretty long. (JR)
