Score 92/100 · Drink 2022-2035, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Oct 2019

The 2016 De Compostella springs to life on the nose, with an expressive core of black and red fruits along with soft herbs, dusty florals and bitter dark chocolate. Full-bodied, the palate is tightly structured with a ripe and spicy fruit core, with dark fruits that linger over the mid-palate and show great balance. The wine concludes with a long-lingering finish that shows a sincere approach to quality winemaking. 5,500 bottles were made.

The 2016 MV de Compostella contains the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon ever, at 63% and it was bottled the first week in May (see the 2015 vintage for the maturation details). It has a strict, almost broody bouquet of dense, graphite-infused black fruit. The palate is more a mixture of red and black fruit and fine-grained tannin, very harmonious in style; touches of pencil lead appear on the precise, sustained finish. While this lacks the sheer precision of the previous vintage, it is a very worthy follow-up.
