Score 90/100 · Drink 2018-2026, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Sep 2018

The 2016 Zinfandel Buck Cobb Vineyard derives from a head-trained, dry-farmed site planted in the late 1990s on granitic soils in Amador County. Displaying aromas of cherries, pencil shavings, bay leaf and cassis, it's medium to full-bodied, with chewy tannins, a juicy core of fruit and a focused, saline finish.

The 2016 Zinfandel Buck Cobb Vineyard shows a riper, more overt side of Zinfandel relative to the other wines in this range. Succulent dark cherry, tobacco, cedar, dried herbs and olives add character. This is a decidedly bold, fruit-driven style, yet the wine retains a mid-weight sense of structure as well as good acidity. Today, though, the tannins are a bit clenched. The 2016 will be an absolute rock star if it opens up a bit more.
