Score 91-93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2016

(Saouma had not made a Beaux-Monts since 2002): Dark, bright ruby. Tighter and less forthcoming on the nose than the Suchots, hinting at kirsch , licorice and bitter chocolate. Black fruit and licorice flavors convey a restrained sweetness but are quite reticent and coiled today, with a bit of new oak showing. Salty more than sweet owing to its dry rocky character. Dominated in the early going by its structure and slightly tough tannins.
