Score 92/100 · Drink 2020-2040, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020

From super ripe and concentrated grapes picked in late October and early November, the 2018 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl combines the fruit of the bottom of the Singerriedel and the Axpoint. The nose is deep, spicy and elegant, with ripe fruit and flinty aromas. Rich, round and sweet on the palate, this is a fresh and fine, very juicy and powerful but elegant Veltliner with typical bitters on the finish. The Honivogl is one of Austria's most famous Veltliners. The finish is salty-piquant and fresh. Tasted at the domain in September 2019.

Some real grip and tension in this wine that is quite intense and refreshing, with some spiciness. Grapefruit syrup? But some tension on the end. (JR)
