The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vides-Bourses 1er Cru is quite strict on the nose, a little more resinous and perhaps smoky in style but well defined and growing in intensity with aeration. The lively palate is fresh on the entry, taut and quite peppery in style, with crisp acidity, good depth and fruit concentration and a splendid mineral-driven finish. This is an excellent Chassagne-Montrachet, one that surpasses my estimation from barrel. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse bursts with aromas of pear, Meyer lemon, honeycomb and toasty new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, muscular and quite youthfully introverted, with lively acids and fine overall balance. In this generally quite open and expressive vintage chez Colin, it's one wine that will need a little time.
The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vides Bourses 1er Cru is one of the most primal wines on the nose at the moment, the terroir not really expressive. The palate is well balanced with a tang of marmalade and orange rind, but it needs to develop the energy of its "siblings", whilst the finish is shrouded in a bit of conservatism. Bottle age may be required here - longer than its peers. (DIAM closure)
