The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines 1er Cru has a well-defined and quite intense bouquet of vibrant citrus fruit, orange pith and light fennel scents, all beautifully focused. The palate is very well balanced and quite intense, with a zesty freshness. There is a bit of reduction here, but it works well and should safeguard the wine’s long-term evolution in bottle. There is plenty of energy on the finish. This should give immense pleasure over the next 12–15 years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Fresh, pale yellow. Aromas of pear, white flowers and minerals complicated by musky lees. Juicy, savory wine with lovely understated flavors of white peach, white flowers and salty minerality. Not an opulent wine but a pure, classically dry, laid-back expression of soil. Finishes fresh and tight, with a subtle repeating hint of savory minerality, lovely energy and subtly building length. This fruit is normally picked on the late side but never with excessive alcohol, according to Pillot. (13.3% natural alcohol)
