Wafting from the glass with scents of orange oil, white flowers, spices and honeycomb, the 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières En la Richarde is medium to full-bodied, textural and aromatic, its broad and enveloping attack segueing into a fleshy, lively mid-palate, concluding with a long, saline finish.

(from Folatières vines at the southern end of this premier cru, close to Chevalier-Montrachet): Medium yellow. Then less obviously ripe on the nose than the Folatières bottling, offering aromas of citrus fruits and spring flowers. Uncompromisingly dry and intense on the palate, showing terrific inner-mouth lift to its flavors of white peach, pear, citrus fruits and spring flowers, not to mention a Chevalier-Montrachet-like minerality. A distinctly airy, uncompromisingly dry style, offering noteworthy inner-mouth floral lift and lovely salinity and class, as well as early personality. This really wakes up and saturates the palate on the back end without leaving any impression of weight. Distinctly white in character, with powdery calcaire obvious, while the estate's other Folatières cuvée , from somewhat redder soil with rocks, is more yellow fruit in style.
