The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru is slightly lighter than the Bonnes-Mares tasted alongside and has a more detailed, precise bouquet of intense blackberry, mulberry, sous-bois and light charcoal aromas that gain power with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, very sensual and seductive. The polished and lightly spiced finish is pure class. Outstanding.

40% whole bunch. Cask sample. Deep cherry red. Fresher and more scented than the Bonnes Mares. The stems show a little more. This is much more the style I enjoy in Burgundy – more fragrant and a little less obviously ripe in fruit character. Toasty and spicy on the finish. The tannic finesse increases the freshness. (JH)
